The processing methods for connector shims include: pre-treatment before coating, which aims to remove various foreign substances (such as oil stains, rust, dust, old paint films, etc.) attached to the shim surface, providing a good substrate suitable for coating requirements, ensuring that the coating has good corrosion resistance, decorative performance, and certain functional characteristics; therefore, the shim surface must undergo pre-treatment before coating.

Manual processing, such as scraping, wire brushing, or grinding wheels, can remove rust and oxide scale from the shim surface; however, the disadvantages of manual processing include high labor intensity, low production efficiency, poor quality, and incomplete cleaning.

Chemical treatment refers to the general term for methods that use chemical or electrochemical processing to generate a stable compound layer on the metal surface. Rust removal can be carried out using acid solutions, anodic dissolution (electrolysis), etc., either separately or in combination. Treatments like phosphate treatment, chromate treatment, blackening, anodic oxidation, etc., create a protective film on the metal surface.

Ionic surface treatment uses ion beam mixing, which bombards metal coated with multi-layer thin films with ions, causing the mixing of atoms from each layer due to ion collisions; this is mainly used in metallurgical research. Ion implantation technology is applied in integrated circuits and microelectronics.
